We booked our Grizzly tour with Aboriginal Journeys, a First Nation owned company. They bring you to Toba Inlet where it will be just your group and the guides. It was foggy, rainy, and quite beautiful. Our journey to mainland British Columbia and First Nation Lands was ethereal. The wild and rugged beauty of BC keeps us coming back, the rawness of nature and you’ll know who is in command – her majesty, Mother Earth.

We loved Vancouver Island so much last year, we decided to go back this year (Fall 2017). It was a tiring trip because we woke up early most days and moved around a lot, but moving around the island is a great way to see it. Vancouver island lies off the coast of British Columbia and it’s one of our favorite places in the world, the air is clean, people are friendly, and nature quite accessible. Victoria is a cute little city.

By Washington Square in the Curtis building is a 15 by 49 foot favrile glass mosaic. The light and colors were brought to you by the studios of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The mosaic is based on a painting by Maxfield Parish.
If you want to imagine rural NYC with rolling hills and vistas everywhere, go to the Morris-Jumel Mansion. It’s actually pretty hard to imagine the city in colonial times especially when you look around and it’s extremely developed but the land the mansion sits on is the same. It’s amazing being able to walk into a house that was built in 1765 (9 years before the American Revolution). Continue reading
The Loew’s Jersey Theatre is one of the five Loew’s Wonder Theaters in the NY area. It was designed by architectural firm Rapp and Rapp like Kings Theatre, their sister theater. The Jersey theater opened to the public in 1929 in Journal Square, Jersey City. The building is built in Baroque/Rocco style. In 2009 it was designated a New Jersey Registered Historic Site. The Jay Gould Estate, also known as Lyndhurst, was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis in 1838. The estate is located in Tarrytown, NY which is one of our favorite destinations for day trips. It’s about a 35 to 44 minute Metro-North train ride from Grand Central depending if you take the express or local train. It’s also my favorite train route and if you read my posts regularly, you know I love trains, choo choo! Continue reading
Temple Emanu-El is located at One East 65th Street, across the street from Central Park. It is one of the largest Reform synagogues in the world. On April 1845, Emanu-El was founded by German Jews on the Lower East Side in a rented hall around Grand and Clinton Streets. At the time, Germany wasn’t unified (federated), they consisted of a German confederation of states. This is the oldest Reform congregation in New York. Continue reading
The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is one of my favorite gardens, I even like it more than the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It’s larger and for much of the park, you don’t see high rise buildings so it really feels like you have gotten away. Right now they are featuring world renowned artist Dale Chihuly. It’s his first major exhibition in NY in over 10 years. His works have been here since April 22, 2017 and the exhibit will close on October 29, 2017. The garden stays open late for Chihuly Nights and the glass pieces are really an extra special something at this time of day. Continue reading
Cold Spring is a town in Putnum County, NY . It’s a great getaway when you need a break from the humdrum of the city. The historic area is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has many preserved buildings from the 19th century. Metro-North Railroad commuter service is about an hour and 10 minutes from Grand Central. Continue reading
